What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced "Ray-key") is a natural method of healing and balancing the universal life energy (also known as Chi, Prana and Ki) present in all living things.

This method of healing originates in ancient Tibet, and was rediscovered in the late 1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese physician, who named it Reiki ("Rei" = Spiritual/Universal, "Ki" = Life force energy).

Reiki is a high-vibrational, spiritually-guided life force energy which promotes healing at all levels of our being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It is the divine power of unconditional love - the energy that gives life to all things on every level of existence.

A Reiki treatment is a powerful but gentle way of providing access to the unlimited light-filled energy inside us and in our universe. The treatment directs the energy to restore balance, harmony and healing in our lives, the lives of others and our planet.

What Is A Reiki Treatment Like?

A Reiki treatment is usually given on a massage table with the client fully clothed (except for shoes).

A light touch is applied as the Reiki practitioner lays hands on various parts of the body. The person receiving the treatment need only be relaxed and receptive.

Each person has a unique experience, though a gentle feeling of warmth and tingling may be felt from the practitioner's hands and most people feel deep relaxation. It is generally offered in a quiet, contemplative manner. A full treatment takes about an hour.

A Reiki treatment can be adapted for those with limitations (e.g. find it difficult to lie down, are confined to beds, etc.) and shorter treatments can still offer great benefit.
